ERTRAC, 2Zero and CCAM joint position paper on road transport research in FP10
Discussions are ongoing about the future R&I framework programme, FP10, raising the question of the long-term objectives of research and innovation in road transport.
The 2Zero Partnership joined forces with ERTRAC and the CCAM Partnership to raise attention on the role road transport research and development is playing to power the transformation of Europe towards a green and digital future.
The Towards Zero Emission Road Transport (2Zero) Partnership has proven to be an effective instrument for addressing the decarbonisation of road transport. Its portfolio of projects delivered concrete outcomes and has been instrumental in fostering collaboration and cross-stakeholder commitment, a trademark of the European innovation ecosystems. In times of uncertainty, it is essential to acknowledge all the work already accomplished and ensure that the successful combination of public and private investments continues under the new framework programme.
For this to work, the new EU Framework Programme must allocate the necessary and appropriate budgets and instruments. Providing the proper financial means will deliver strong and fast progress on the important policy objectives of the sector, such as climate neutrality and road safety, bringing concrete impacts to society and supporting the European industry and economy, which urgently need to preserve their competitiveness. An ambitious research support scheme can ensure that automotive and mobility will remain a strong sector in the future in Europe.
