The global objective of ELIBAMA is to accelerate the creation of a strong European automotive battery industry structured around industrial companies already committed to mass production of Li-ion batteries for EV’s. The project will exploit eco-design to guarantee gains in cost reduction and environment-friendliness across the whole battery production chain. Specifically, the project focuses on electrode production, electrolyte manufacturing, fast and homogenous cell filling, cell design and assembly.

Moreover, the project will develop technologies to improve downstream quality and yield. This includes clean manufacturing, online high resolution monitoring and inspection, and non-destructive testing of Li-ion cells. The project will also study recycling and refurbishing of end-of-life Li-ion batteries in order to maximize their use and minimize their environmental impact. All these technical improvements will be closely monitored and validated by a consistent life cycle analysis.
